ALMA Farms and MicroMatching

February 7, 2022

Well, here we are again… A new week and another astounding nonprofit. Our Cause of of the Week, ALMA Backyard Farms, has blown us away with their threefold mission:

  • to help reclaim the lives of the formerly incarcerated,

  • to re-purpose urban land into productive urban farm plots,

  • to re-imagine community as a place for people and plants to thrive.

We are so inspired by their story of listening carefully to the desire of previously incarcerated people to give back and lead productive lives, turning those desires into growing and sharing food, and restoring life and land through urban agriculture.

We’re asking our community to join together to give a buck or two (or three, but never more than ten!*) to help support their programming. We are also matching all microdonations this week, up to $500.

52andChange provides an opportunity for people to give, just a little, with one another each week to help nonprofits that are setting amazing examples of how to make a difference. Whether they’re from your local area, or part of our larger community, we’re all in this together. Show your support and find out more about the incredible work ALMA is doing here. While you’re there, click on the links to follow their social media page. They’re a great reminder of good things that are happening in the world.

Thanks for making a difference this week!

Together we’ve become volunteers in places we would have never expected, planted milkweed for butterflies, provided books to kids in need, helped save endangered turtles, helped turn excess food into nutrition, helped bring art to youth, educated one another about how we are connected to our delicate food systems, helped save abandoned horses and given old dogs new hope, watched foster youth shine in the spotlight of movie making, helped clean tires out of rivers… we could go on and on and on. It is an absolute joy to be a part of such an amazing network of humans making a difference.
