Frequently asked questions
Q: How much of my donation goes to the nonprofit? Do you charge fees?
A: Every week you have the opportunity to give between $1 and $10, and every dollar you choose to give goes to the nonprofit. All credit card merchants charge and collect a processing fee, which will be added at checkout. 52andChange does not currently charge a platform fee but instead we rely on voluntary “tips” to operate our service and expand our reach to more nonprofits.
Q: Why a cap of $10 per Cause?
A: Collective giving promotes the idea that if we all give a small amount, together, the impact of participating in meaningful change is shared equally. If we keep the amount low, more people can join the effort, and the power of our collective voice can be amplified by the quality of the nonprofits’ work rather than pleas for more and more money from existing users.
Q: Do you share my personal information with the Cause of the Week nonprofit?
A: No. We do not share your information with anyone. However, after you contribute to a Cause of the Week campaign, you will have the option to connect with the Cause through their website, email, or social media, if you'd like.
Q: What if I want to give more than $10?
A: If you’d like to give more to an organization, please visit their website. That link is available on every Cause of the Week page along with the Cause's social media accounts.
Q: Will I receive an acknowledgement for this gift?
A: You will receive an email after every donation.
Q: Are my donations tax deductible? Why or why not?
A: No. 52andChange is not a nonprofit organization. Rather, we are an LLC with a dual mission: (a) to provide nonprofit organizations with support they cannot otherwise get, and (b) to provide our users with the opportunity to make a real real change with pocket change. We want our users to become philanthropists, but not just by giving a dollar. We hope to expose our constituents to the extraordinary efforts of the wide variety of nonprofit organizations that make up an important part of our society, and hope we will inspire them to a lifetime of charitable giving.
