Featuring Housing Matters

It’s Monday...how are you going to help change the world this week? One way is to join other 52andChange microgivers in giving a little, sharing a lot with like-minded friends and family, and making a difference... together!

52andChange’s featured Cause of the Week is Housing Matters, and we are grateful to amplify their mission. Housing Matters partners with individuals and families to create pathways out of homelessness into permanent housing. Help support their inspiring efforts by giving $1, $2, $3… up to $10 through Sunday!

Their services include:

The Loft is a low-barrier shelter for up to 43 individuals at a time, open to adults who are currently experiencing homelessness and who are partnering with Housing Matters to end their homelessness.
The Recuperative Care Center: shelters up to 12 individuals experiencing homelessness to recover/stabilize while receiving integrated social services, including housing planning, mental health care, benefits enrollment, and substance abuse treatment. The Recuperative Care Center aims to reduce recovery time from significant medical events and to decrease the likelihood of recurring hospital stays.
Rebele Family Shelter: provides emergency shelter for up to 28 households with children. Families reside in the shelter while working toward obtaining permanent housing.
Page Smith Community House is now being transitioned into the future site of 120 units of permanent and supportive housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness.
Day Services: free and open to the entire community. They offer hot showers daily, 24/7 restrooms, and a mailroom where those who don’t have a permanent address get their mail.

Right now we need innovative, proactive solutions to homelessness. Housing Matters is not only housing people without homes and helping them find their way back to independence; they are also showing the rest of us how it's done. Find out more and give here!

Together we’ve become volunteers in places we would have never expected, planted milkweed for butterflies, provided books to kids in need, helped save endangered turtles, helped turn excess food into nutrition, helped bring art to youth, educated one another about how we are connected to our delicate food systems, helped save abandoned horses and given old dogs new hope, watched foster youth shine in the spotlight of movie making, helped clean tires out of rivers… we could go on and on and on. It is an absolute joy to be a part of such an amazing network of humans making a difference.
