To transform Detroit by teaching about waste and recycling. Green Living Science is dedicated to working alongside Detroiters to increase recycling participation and awareness of environmental issues and personal responsibility through education.
Green Living Science was founded in 2007 in response to the Detroit Public Schools Community District's request to bring education about recycling and natural resource conservation to its students. Since then we've reached over 300,000 students! Programs include assemblies and in-class lessons to teach children about reusing and repurposing materials as well as natural resource conservation. Over the years, we’ve also expanded our programming to not only serve schools, but also businesses and community members.

The Bee Green Business is designed to aid businesses and their employees in setting up successful and efficient recycling and waste reduction programs.
Bee Green Business is an education and certification program that aids businesses and their employees in becoming responsible corporate citizens. Whether an office building, apartment complex, or small mom and pop shop, Green Living Science will connect businesses with a vendor to provide a recycling pick up service.
Our customized approach to waste reduction has helped businesses of all shapes and sizes in Detroit.
Green Living Science works to transform Detroit into a cleaner and greener place to live! By engaging community members of all ages, we are able to work on the challenges we face today as well as prepare for the future. We have a philosophy of allowing individuals to take ownership over their community. To do this, we work with residents to provide resources to improve Detroit through clean up efforts, because it is important for residents to connect with one another while restoring the green spaces in the local area through stewardship.
Green Living Science also works with block clubs, church groups, and community organizations throughout the city to provide free recycling carts to residents, with the goal of increasing Detroit’s recycling participation rate to 50%.

Together we’ve become volunteers in places we would have never expected, planted milkweed for butterflies, provided books to kids in need, helped save endangered turtles, helped turn excess food into nutrition, helped bring art to youth, educated one another about how we are connected to our delicate food systems, helped save abandoned horses and given old dogs new hope, watched foster youth shine in the spotlight of movie making, helped clean tires out of rivers… we could go on and on and on. It is an absolute joy to be a part of such an amazing network of humans making a difference.

While we’re writing this and you’re reading it, Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes is out there, finding ways to provide food to more people in need throughout Santa Cruz County, where one of three residents are reported to be food insecure.
