Kids in the Spotlight and MicroMatching

We are thrilled to ring in the new year by bringing Kids in the Spotlight back to 52andChange.org. This week we’re amplifying the work of this wonderful nonprofit to our growing audience, and matching all microdonations up to $500.

Make a difference this week by joining others in donating $1, $2, $3… up to $10 to Kids in the Spotlight, helping to give foster youth full agency to tell their stories by writing, casting, and starring in their own short films.

Since 2009, KITS has created more than 75 films with over 500 youth from foster care. Being a Black-female-led, Black-and brown-youth-serving organization, KITS is well positioned to bridge the diversity, equity, and inclusion gap in the entertainment industry and invest in local foster youth in Los Angeles.

Kids in the Spotlight's Script-to-Screen program uses film as a vehicle to provide underserved youth ages 12 to 22:

• a safe space to face their pain and find their power.

• agency and decision-making power over the stories they tell as they write, cast, and star in their own short films.

• hands-on job training, preparing them for careers in the entertainment industry.

• screenwriting skills to help youth learn to communicate, negotiate, collaborate, and compromise.

• the KITS Film Awards, where youth take center stage in the spotlight at the culmination of the project, receiving the Academy Award-worthy treatment they deserve.

• the chance to become equipped with workforce skills, empowered to achieve their goals, and emboldened to become leaders in their communities.
