Whole Child International and MicroMatching

This week, we’re sharing yet another wonderful nonprofit and reaching out to our growing community to join one another in giving a little (between $1and $10) together, to help make a difference. Through Sunday, your collective dollars will help Whole Child International deepen the relationships between caregivers and children in El Salvador.

We’ll also double all donations as they come in, up to $500.

For children in orphanages and other limited-resource settings, a strong, reliable attachment with an adult can be as important as food and shelter to long-term outcomes. Yet, secure attachments are a surprisingly infrequent focus of childcare centers and systems — a problem our Cause of the Week, Whole Child International, has been singularly focused on since its founding.

Here’s how Whole Child International is changing lives:

• The foundation of Whole Child’s work is relationship-centered care — in which caregivers focus on a central goal of having a stable, nurturing relationship with every child.

• Whole Child's evidence-based practices demonstrate that the focus on relationships can achieve significant improvements in children’s social-emotional and linguistic development, and even — despite no change in nutrition — their physical growth.

• To ensure that relationship-centered care is well implemented, Whole Child trains caregivers to use routine moments to connect with each child and feel confident in their ability to provide what the child needs.

• Whole Child works across care settings to ensure that children are better prepared to participate in family life and society as healthy and well-adjusted individuals — benefiting them, their family, their community, and society as a whole.
