Featuring MitoAction
July 12, 2021
How will you help change the world this week?
Recently we heard from a 52andChangeMaker (automatic giver) that opening their Monday email is like opening a present, connecting them to a new and different nonprofit that they didn’t know existed, that they had played a part in helping to support. The work of MitoAction is this week’s gift to all of us and we hope you’ll consider a micro-gift ($1, $2, $3… never more than $10) to support their efforts.
Mitochondrial disease is an inherited, chronic illness that can be present at birth or develop later in life. “Mito” is progressive and can cause physical, developmental, and cognitive disabilities.
MitoAction provides a lifeline to patients of this rare disease, helping them to know they aren't alone on their journey. They strive to offer comprehensive, up-to-date, expert resources, information, and support at no cost to any patient, family, clinician, educator, or member of the community.
Among other things, donor dollars support the Matthew Harty Camper Fund (in memory of eight-year-old Matthew), sending children with mitochondrial disease to summer camp. The opportunity for a child to go to summer camp and forget about all of the issues they face day-to-day is a gift MitoAction is honored to provide, not only to the child, but to the family and parents as well. To date, MitoAction has sent more than 365 kids to camp!
Learn about their goals, the Marcel’s Way Family Fund, their 411 support line, and so much more here. Huge thanks to the staff and volunteers at MitoAction for their tireless work, making lives better every day. Another group of heroes!
Thanks for giving a little and sharing a lot. It’s the power of collective giving. Let’s do this, together.
