Featuring Organic Farm School

September 27, 2021

Good morning! How are you going to help make the world a better place this week? We have three words: Organic Farm School. We are honored to present Organic Farm School to our growing 52andChange microgiving community, where we rally around $1 gifts and never ask for more than $10.*

Why the Organic Farm School? Because we care about the future of farming and food!

Our new Cause of the Week is training aspiring farmers to develop and manage small farms focused on ecological, economic, and social regeneration — simultaneously offering opportunities for community members to learn about their role in strengthening local and regional food systems.

At the Organic Farm School, they understand that the ecosystem in which food grows is complex and consider how farming practices might either disrupt or strengthen that ecosystem. The eight-month, forty-hour-a-week experiential program guides students through what it takes to successfully start and manage a small-scale commercial organic farm: from the field tasks of tillage, planting, and harvesting to the office tasks of crop planning, marketing, and financial management.

With more than half of all U.S. farmers 55+ years old and with 91 million acres of farmland needing to be transitioned to new farmers in the next five years, supporting new farmers is vital to ensuring that our food system develops sustainably into the future.

There’s just so much more! Learn more about their programs and how to connect here.

Huge thanks to the staff, volunteers and students at the Organic Farm School for working so hard to put healthy food on our plates and bring new farmers to the table.

And, thank you for making a difference this week at 52andChange.org!
